Quality Stinger 9 years ago
I was looking to replace my factory bumper with a solid bumper that would be good on the trail. Most of the bumpers I found came with a bull bar. I like the bull bar but it really doesn't offer me what I need out of my front bumper. I always wanted a Stinger. I liked the way they look and I like how they protect my rig and myself when I'm out on the trail. When it comes to stinger bumpers there didn't seem to be a whole lot of options for my '97 TJ. There are a few companies that make them, but they are super expensive and most were sold as just a stinger unit with no bumper. I really wanted a stinger bumper that came with D-ring supports and one I would be able to use with my Warn winch and winch plate. I have run a few different Smittybilt products on my rig before and they always stood up to any abuse I put them through. With that in mind I decided to check out their line of bumpers. The XRC series seemed rugged and tough, but again I was looking at bull bars and no stingers. I then came across their SRC Stinger front bumper. It had the D-ring supports I was looking for, it was a stubby bumper that would help me articulate through the rocks and trail obstacles and it had a great stinger on it as well. A lot of the stingers I came across were just bars with no real support to them it seemed. The main reason I wanted the stinger was to help protect my rig and myself on steep declines in a trail situation. The Smittybilt Stinger is more than just a bent piece of metal. It actually has a plate on it that will give the stinger added support if my rig ever tries to flip forward on me. The black powder coat finish was nice as well. My only complaint with the bumper is just that it is small and doesn't offer as much protection to the underside of my rig. I have a '97 TJ and we all know that the power steering gearbox is left totally unprotected. I run a skid plate to protect my gearbox and the way the bumper articulates in made it a little difficult to secure the other side of my skid plate, but it did happen and I am very pleased with the result. I am working now to make a plate that will cover the rest of the underside of my front end. All in all I am very pleased with my purchase of this stinger bumper. It is very cost effective as well being only $250. It is a great replacement bumper from the factory bumper that comes on stock rigs, and it bolted right on. The entire install of this bumper, that includes the removal of my old bumper, winch and winch plate, only took 15 minutes from start to finish and I was rockin' my new bumper. I personally don't think you can go wrong with this bumper if you are looking for a quality/affordable bumper with a stinger as opposed to the standard bull bar. Here is a list of my Pros and Cons of the Smittybilt SRC Stinger bumper. Pros: - Stubby bumper won't get hung up on roks, bushes or trees on the trail - 2 welded supports for D-Rings to aid in recovery or tiedown. - Easy on/off installation. The entire install took me 15 minutes from start to finish. - Black powder coat finish - Quality welds and a very high quality stinger with a catch plate - This stinger also accomodates my Warn winch and winch plate. Most Warn winches only fit Warn bumpers, but my old used and abused Warn fit nicely on this bumper. If you don't already have a winch and winch plate, but are planning on getting one... Smittybilt also makes an affordable plate that mounts direct to this bumper. - The Smittybilt SRC Stinger is a VERY affordable bumper and a great place to start when wanting to loose that tired old stock front bumper. - The SRC Stinger not only adds instant protection and functionability on the trail, but it also adds instant attitude to your rig. I mean it's one tough looking bumper! Your rigs appearance drastically changes in minutes. Cons: - may need to do a little custom work to install any skid plates for power steering gearbox protection and undercarraige protection. - the stubby bumper makes it hard to have any factory style fog lights installed on the bumper due to it's short length. So, in my opinion you can't go wrong with this bumper. If you are truely looking for a functional piece of equipment, at a very affordable price, it is a solid piece of equipment. I run it on my rig. Trail tested/Jezebel approved. Jeep on. OIIIIIIIO

Great bumper 9 years ago
The bumper wasn't horrible expensive love the way it looks on my jeep. It tends to whistle around 40-45 mph but not a huge issue when your also running AT's. Couldn't be happier. Would highly recomemend it to a friend.

A: It doesn't include a winch mount. You will need this one if mounting a winch to the bumper. https://www.northridge4x4.com/part/winch-plates/2802-smittybilt-winch-plate-ii
