My 2021 JLU Wrangler 4xe was experiencing a very slight steering shimmy that occurred on rough pavement at speeds over 50 mph. I didn’t believe that any steering components were worn, so I decided to upgrade to an AEV/Bilstein steering damper. Being old and stubborn I performed the install with the Jeep on the ground. With a regular damper that wouldn't be as issue, but the AEV/Bilstein piece uses a monotube high gas pressure design- which means that it's very hard to compress it enough so that it will fit into the Jeep's mounting brackets. Because of the reduced clearance and lack of leverage it took me several tries -I thought I was going to pop a blood vessel towards the end- but I finally had it installed with the two mounting bolts torqued to the correct values. AEV provides a nut and bolt to replace the long shank bolt that is found on the tie rod end of Wranglers from mid 2021-on but the bolt is a bit of a loose fit. Instead of using it I bought the proper short shank bolt at my Jeep dealer (PN 06510774AA) for $3.10. It's a much tighter fit and it eliminates the need to put a wrench on the bolt head to tighten the nut. I took it on a test drive and I really like it. It firms up the steering a bit and eliminated any hint of shimmy. Some people don't like the AEV/Bilstein damper because the high pressure design causes a very slight pull to the right. I didn't notice it unless I took both hands off the wheel; it doesn't bother me at all, but YMMV.

I replaced a stock non-fox Rubicon steering damper with this AEV branded version of the Bilstein damper. The jeep was already jittery over bumps stock and got worse with a lift, this calmed that down quite a bit and post alignment it's smoother now than stock. I saw some complaints of steering drift with the regular Bilstein, not sure if this is charged at a different level, but no issues with the AEV version. easy install, got it on in a few minutes.

Replaced the OEM Mopar with this Bilstein made AEV and it stopped the mild bump steer I was experiencing after installing a 2" lift with new LCAs. Steering feels tighter overall now. I'm Impressed..

After mounting my 35" MT summer tires, my Rubicon 4xe had a bad shimmy with cold tires at low highway speeds. Upgrading to this very affordable option straightened everything out! No more vibrations at the wheel.

Insulation was easy and straight forward. Stabilizer was stiffer to compress than factory,. Driving feels more planted now by removing the light feeling on the wheel when driving straight and adding slight more resistance when turning.

I did not notice any difference over my stock steering damper on my 2024 jlur. I run 35" tires so thought I might notice a difference but I guess with only 11000 miles on the stock one it was still in good shape.

I have a 2.5 dualsport lift so figured this might be a good upgrade..I put the lift on when my 2024 jlur was new and have 11000 miles on it so figured maybe the stock one was due for an upgrade. Granted I had no issues before so not sure why I felt the need to upgrade, but I did anyway. If someone else had installed it with out my knowledge I would not be able to feel a difference. Literally a 10 minute install if you have a cordless impact, looks good tho. quality appears good but it is still brand new so time and miles will tell....
