JKX West Coast: Day 6 Recap

Waking up in remembrance of the events of 9/11 had the crew a bit somber but we went through the mornings drivers meeting and Mr. Randy Byers spoke up and said that the least we could do to honor the men and women who sacrificed that day and for our country since then was to say the “Pledge of Allegiance” and everyone agreed. The end of the Pledge brought a round of applause and a blessed feeling through everyone. Gateway14 We started the day with some road miles toward Gateway Colorado and the scenery along the way was breathtaking to say the least. I think it gave everyone a chance to clear their mind and think about how lucky we are in this country to be able to undertake something like the JKX, there are very few places in this world where people have the freedom and economic ability to do so. As we dropped into Gateway the snaking line up of JK’s turned into the Gateway Resort and Auto Museum and who doesn’t like classic cars right? The group filed into the museum and everyones jaw dropped at the sight of the awesome car collection. The owner of the Resort and Museum has really put together something special and it is worth getting off the beaten path to visit and take a look. http://www.gatewayautomusuem.com Once everyone had finished the tour we were advised to stop at the local gas stations and make sure we were topped off and had all the necessary items for lunch and dinner as we were headed deep into the Dolores Triangle...

JKX West Coast: Day 5 Recap

After the fun we had at Rangley Park, Day 5 had a lot to live up to. Although the day would be short, it didn’t disappoint. We started off on beautiful drive through the hills. After a little bit of road miles, we quickly realized we were at the trail head of one of Colorado’s gnarliest trails, 21 Road. We had a quick lunch break during which Mel and crew had the guests and sponsors team up to see who could change a tire the fastest. After the games and lunch, we were off! Moving slowly, Mel’s crew successfully help navigate everyone through the twisted, bumpy trail. Some rocks we were able to barely make over. While other parts we were barely able to make under. Then we came up on this part of the trail. This was a large cut-out of the hill side that provided a cool damp area with tricky mud holes and rocks. Lots of messy fun! Extra lights were definitely needed here. Thanks Rigid! Go towards the light! Since this was such a fun spot, we all lined up for another group selfie. After 21 Road, we headed back to the hotel for repairs and rest. Today was another exhausting day. We were told Day 6 involved some road miles but it would be worth it. So far, every road mile was worth it and we couldn’t wait to see what was next! ...

JKX West Coast: Day 4 Recap

Day 4 we took a short drive away from our hotel to Rangely Park. At the staging area, Mel had the group play a little winch game just to get everyone loosened up for the day. On their way to victory! After messing around a bit, we were broken up into groups of 3, given a map and told to have fun. WOO!!!! Our group consisted of Andrew Gorman and Harris Wells from Adart, Pete Williamsen and Ali Mansour from JKS. Oh yeah, Oliver Crane and Malo Castro from Northridge derr… We headed straight for a trail named Godzilla. Greeted with a nice drop-in obstacle, we were very happy with the trail we picked! Check out all that flex! Andrew Gorman in his 2012 JK8 ripped up the trails… with a little spotting from his co-driver Harris Wells of course. 🙂 Never content with normal lines, Oliver found something a little more challenging. Poor trasharoo. Peter and his 2 door were feeling a little saucy and tried the “big boy” line. After putzing around, we met up with the rest of the group so we could all tackle MEGASAURUS together. JKX Veteran Randy Byers took the lead and showed everyone how it’s done. Invited guest CJ Maurer followed Randy. There were a bunch of winch anchors on this massive obstacle. We all used every one of them. Speaking of winch anchor points, have you ever seen a human one? Neither have we. Leave up to Mel and his group! Making light work of this tr...

JKX West Coast: Day 3 Recap

For the first part of day 3 we found ourselves on yet another road day. This time however, we traveled through the scenic Trail Ridge Road in the Rocky Mountain National Park. The views from up there were breathtaking! We even saw a few of the locals there! We can see why it’s referred to as the highway to the sky. After a quick break, we headed on down to a very challenging trail called Sidewinder. Even Mel had a little trouble with this one. Winches were the saviors of the day. Warn definitely was the hero today. Parts of the trail were very tough. Mel’s crew did a phenomenal job at spotting everyone. Some obstacles were tough to get through though. With a group this size, there was a bit of spectating too. The end of the trail was amazing. Everyone was rewarded with this view as we all scooted off to the next stop on our list. Mel and his crew took us on another long drive to our final destination for the day, Ripple Creek Lodge. Winding dirt roads made for a challenging caravan. Amber lights were a definite must! Our stay there was short but well needed. We were treated to a killer dinner of brisket, baked beans, fries and dessert. With just enough time to check our rigs and eat dinner, we were in and out of Ripple Creek Lodge before the sun set.lodge The last leg of our trip had us in the small city of Rangely where we stayed the night. A good night’s sleep is ...

JKX West Coast: Day 2 Recap

Day two required a long drive so we packed up our gear and said adios to Deadwood. It was pretty cool lining up and driving through town. It looked like the most badass parade ever! Long road day. Most of the day looked like this. Not all of the scenery looked bad though. After several gas stops and naps, we found ourselves in a much more exciting area. Wondering where we were going, all of our questions were answered when we arrived at our home for the night. It’s the famous Stanley Hotel. Didn’t they film a famous movie here? Of course! This is where they filmed parts of Jim Carrey’s Dumb and Dumber! Wait, wasn’t another movie filmed here? Redrum, redrum…. redrum. We dropped off our luggage, got cleaned up a bit and made way for Smokin’ Dave’s BBQ and Taphouse for dinner. Dinner was AMAZING! Ribs, chicken, brisket, pulled pork, corn bread and more were just what the doctor ordered after a long road day. However, dinner wasn’t the last activity on our agenda. Mel setup a special ghost tour of the hotel just for us. Now we’re not saying we do or do not believe in ghosts but here’s a series of pictures that shows “something” was captured. Again, it’s up to you to decide on what we saw. Btw, thanks Mel for the entertainment. As you can imagine, it was challenging to get to sleep that night. ...

JKX West Coast: Day 1 Recap

Now that the dust has settled a bit and we’re back in the office, let’s take a moment to relive our experience while participating in the JK Experience West Coast. Day one started off in the historic city of Deadwood, SD. The destination, Iceman trail. Filled with large boulders, Iceman provided the group with a great sampling of what was in store for them. The drive getting to Iceman was beautiful! Higher and higher we climbed until… Rocks!! Parts of the trail got really tight too. Very cool trail with beautiful scenery. After lunch, we headed out to our next destination. After a long drive, we found ourselves surrounded by more rocks. We even drove through some rocks! Hey, it’s Mt. Rushmore! Day one was filled with great surprises. Stay tuned to see how the rest of the trip went! ...

2015 JK Experience – Middle America: Day 2 & 3

For the third and final day of the 2015 JKX – Middle America, the weather didn’t cooperate at all with they day’s plans. Prepared as always, Mel and his crew went to plan B and we headed back to K2 OHV park for another great run in the rocks. Beautiful scenery, look at those clouds... Rhodey doing what he does best. We aired down and got right after it hoping to get some great rock crawling in before the weather turned really ugly. The wheeling was fantastic and ended with a crazy hill climb on the “Escalator” which proved to be more than technical and a lot of fun. Once again, we have EVO1 showing off. 😉 Everyone was able to test their skills and their JK’s as far as they wanted. Just as the run ended, the clouds unleashed a drought killing rain with hail and tornado warnings. Luckily, we managed to keep in front of the storm long enough to get to our next location which was the Hanger Hotel on the runway in Fredrickburg, Texas. Hangar hotel huh? I wonder how many times it’s been called Hangover Hotel? 😉 What do both of these vehicles have in common? They’ve both been airborne! Once we got the group pics taken we headed for Luckenbach, Texas for a live band and great way to end the event. Heel, toe, dosey doe come on baby let’s go boot scootin! YEEEEE HAAAAAW! This place had some strange rules… That nobody followed! Once again Mel and his crew gave us...

2015 JK Experience – Middle America: Day 1

Day one of the Nitto Tire JK Experience presented by Discount Tire is a wrap. We had a great day of wheeling at Hidden Falls Adventure Park in Marble Falls, TX. All lined up and ready to go! ♫I will follow him, follow him wherever he may go!♫ The park offered something for everyone from mild to extremely wild. With all the rain this area has been receiving lately, there was very little traction to be had. This made for some very challenging lines. EVO1 making short work of the mud. Muddy lines. Just the way we like ’em! We tried to run Rhodey on two wheels for a short time and while it made for great pictures and video it was a bit hard to handle. Two wheels? No problem! Stay tuned tomorrow as we’re sure the mud isn’t going to dry up anytime soon nor is Mel going to make things easy on us. Follow us on this blog or our Facebook page to keep in touch on what’s going on during the 2015 JKX – Middle America Adventure! ...

2015 JK Experience – Middle America: Meeting Point

As the second JKX for 2015 gets started, we’re very excited and proud to be part of Nitto’s JK Experience Middle America presented by Discount Tire. Two of our best, Eric Johnson and David Page, made it to the meeting point located in Marble Falls, Texas where they met up with Mel Wade, his crew and the other participants. As usual Mel and his crew have everything lined up perfectly. The buzz between the invited guests and sponsors is high and everyone can’t wait to see what’s in store. ♫The stars at night, are big and bright. Deep in the heart of Texas!♫ Sticking with the plan (see what we did there?) all the Jeeps are branded with the JKX logo across their windshields. Once all the JK’s have been sticker’d up, they will have a drivers meeting to line out the start of the next day’s wheeling. It’s raining and muggy so the mud should be fresh!! Pshhh…. MUD? No problem! Eric lends a hand making sure all the rigs are sticker’d up properly. Mel and his crew go over the plan. Armed with the latest technology in eye protection, Eric is ready to throw out a beat down with Rhodey’s Dynatrac Axles. I wonder if these Dynatrac glasses are as durable as their axles? Stay tuned as tomorrow we’ll post our Day 1 JKX Middle America experience. Follow us on this blog or our Facebook page to keep in touch on what’s going on during the 2015 JKX – Middle Americ...

2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon SEMA Build For Premier Performance

We were asked to build a killer JKUR for the Premier Performance SEMA booth, we wanted to build a JK that would look great at any show and one that people would actually want to wheel. There were a ton of Jeeps at the show, this one stood out as one that looked good and was highly functional. By far, this is one of our favorite JK builds we have ever done.   Poison Spyder Bumper and WARN winch time: The most iconic view of any jeep is the front and we wanted this JKUR to look good, so we outfitted it with: Poison Spyder – Brawler Lite Front Bumper With Brawler Bar WARN – VR EVO 10s Winch w/ Synthethic Rope   Big Axle BEEF time: To handle the 40s we installed a super stout Dynatrac ProRock 60/80 Axle Set    EVO Double Throw Down Suspension:  EVO – Front Double ThrowDown System RockJock – AntiRock Rear Sway Bar Kit EVO – Long Arm Upgrade Kit Body Armor for your JK AEV – Rear Corner Guards Poison Spyder – Brawler Rockers Brighten up the Night with LEDs: J.W. 2014 Red Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon build

A great Start to any JK build: This 2014 JK came through our Silverdale shop for a build a few years back. We built it using quite a few parts from AEV – American Expedition Vehicles and when you build a Jeep with good quality parts, it’s hard to end up with bad build. The owner was looking to have something they could take out into the wilds for some exploration and a good base to continue to build up over time. Though this build is a few years old, it is still a great example for starting any JK build even in today’s standards. AEV Premium Front Bumper, PN# 10305055AD on the front of this JK adds excellent protection and is ready to accept a WARN Zeon 10-S winch. Adding in an AEV Dualsport RS 3.5″ suspension gives this Rubicon enough lift to clear a set of 35×12.50 Nitto Trail Grapplers mounted on Matte Black 17×8.5 Method Double Standard wheels. To help the rear tire clear the bumper, we added in a Teraflex JK/TJ Spare Tire Extension. No matter what angle you view it from, this 2014 JKUR looks good.   What other parts would we add to this JK? For a matching rear bumper, we’d choose the AEV Rear Bumper .You’d get a strong rear bumper that can easily protect the rear end of your JK from whatever the trail throws at it! For some side protection, we’d go with a set of Rock Hard 4x4 Patriot Series Rocker Guards Tube Style which bolt on easily to your Jeep and provide m...
