Protecting your door sills with OE Mopar parts
Sometimes it really is those little things that can bug the heck out of you. In the case of our Firecracker Red JLUR, it was the daily use and abuse taking its toll on the door sills. In a short 7,000 miles of use, the scratches at the door sills were serious, in an annoying kind of way.
The MPR82215394 Sill Guards are a quick way you can help keep those sills in good condition and they come from Mopar, so you know they’ll fit your JL with no problems. So when the first set showed up here at Northridge4x4 in Silverdale, WA, we figured we’ll give them a shot on our shop JL and show you how to protect your sills while we’re at it.
What do you need:
Mopar JL Sill Guards pn#2215394.
Ease of Install:
Half a wrench on the five wrench scale. Seriously, if you can’t install these you should be driving a car. Tools Needed: A few paper towels and some 409 cleaner.
The How-To install your Mopar Sill Guards:
After only 7,000 miles our JLUR, the scratches at the driver’s door sill are quite noticeable. Sure, it’s not a big deal, but they were annoying to look at.
We wiped away the dirt and grime using a couple paper towels and some 409 cleaner. Then set the guards on the sills to check placement and make sure we like where they’re going to sit.
Next up was to use the Mopar supplied alcohol wipes to go back over the sill plates, making sure they were really clean.
Peel the first inch back on the adhesive strip covers on the backside of the sill guards, leave the tails hanging out.
Set the sill guards into place, keeping the tails hanging out.
Start peeling the adhesive cover strips out from under the Mopar sill guards. Don’t press down hard on the sill guards until you have the adhesive covers completely removed.
Push down on the sill guards and hold for a couple minutes to make sure the adhesive tape has set.
Do the same for the rears. Clean, the sills with the supplied alcohol swabs, peel back the tails an inch, set the guards in place and peel the adhesive covers the rest of the way out.
Then finish up by pressing the rear sill guards into place and holding for a few minutes to make sure they’ve set.
With the sill guards in place, the door sills are ready to help protect your sills from the day to day entry and exit scrambles. Now it may seem like one of those little things and it is. However, in the long-run, spending a little time to do those little things will help ensure your JL will be looking good for many years to come.
