Whether you lifted your Jeep or just want extra asisstance getting in and out of your tall Jeep, side steps are the perfect solution. That means it’s time to look at some side step systems. Something that’ll protect your new Jeep from door dings and rogue shopping carts and something with some built-in steps that sit a little lower for easy entry and exit.
Enter the side step systems from N-Fab… Good looks, good pricing and they feature true drop steps that make climbing in and out much easier.
Two different N-Fab Side Steps:
Their Predator PRO Side Step system is built from aluminum for light weight and are formed from flat sheet to give that custom designed look. The two drop steps off each rail are placed for optimum ergonomics. N-Fab Predator PRO Step System #NFBJ1863-TX
Their Nerf Side Step system uses round tubing for the off road look, are built from steel for strength and lower price and also offers two drop steps off of each rail. They are available with a smooth or textured finish.
N-Fab Nerf Step System #NFBJ1866-GB (textured)
N-Fab Nerf Step System #NFBJ1866 (non-textured)
Ease of Installation:
Both sets of steps were very easy to install. It took us about 40 minutes to remove the OE steps and install the new N-Fab Nerf Steps and a few minutes more to do the same for the N-Fab Predator Steps.
Tools Needed:
10mm, 12mm, 13mm sockets
13mm wrenches
Ratchet
Needle nose pliers
Blue Loctite (or other medium strength thread locking compound).
Removing the OE steps:
If your JL came with factory steps or rock rails, they need to be removed before you can install the N-Fab step systems.
There are a total of three bolts and six nuts per side to remove. The bolts need a 13mm socket and the nuts need a 10mm socket to remove them.
Then the OE steps or rails will slip out from the mounting holes and drop down.
Installing the N-Fab Nerf Step System:
The Nerf Stem System uses three bolts and two nuts at each bracket leg on the step.
N-Fab Nerf Step uses the same holes the OE step system uses. Hold the Nerf Step into position and install the new hardware. **Use a dab of medium strength thread locking compound to help keep the hardware secure.**
Once installed and rolled outside, the N-Fab Nerf Side Steps are ready for action against those vicious door dings and shopping carts encounters. The drop steps make for easy vehicle entry and exit and they look good to boot.
Installing the N-Fab Predator Sidestep System:
The Predator PRO uses 3 bolts and two spring nuts at each bracket position to secure the step to your Jeep.
The spring nuts clip into the step brackets, one on each side of the bracket. Use a pair of needle nose pliers to compress the spring clip just enough to slip the nut into the brackets.
Hold the Predator Side Steps up into position and use the included hardware to secure the steps to your Jeep in the same holes as the factory steps.
The use of a little blue Loctite (medium strength) on the installation bolts will help keep your new N-Fab sidestep hardware tight.
The Predator PRO side steps definitely have a custom look to them. The drop steps make climbing in and out easier and the aluminum helps keep added weight to a minimum.
