6th Tillamook Jeep Jamboree USA - 2021

For the 6th Tillamook Jeep Jamboree USA event, we sent Malo from the Washington shop and his buddy Joe to represent at the only jamboree held in the Pacific Northwest. The sights were incredible, trails were fun, and the people were fantastic.

Day one the team decided to divide and conquer so they could have the opportunity to talk with more people. Malo went on the Cedar Tree trail run while Joe went on Hoodraiser. This was a very wet day as the typical Oregon rain was in full effect but that didn’t dampen our team’s spirits.

Being an official Jeep Badge of Honor trail, the Cedar Tree run was a popular choice. This trail presented the group with tight turns and lots of stumps and trees to navigate around. If not careful, you could lose a mirror or bang your hard top on some of the trees. Thankfully, at the end of the day, the only damage was lots of fresh pinstripes and one punctured tire. In the middle of the trail is a huge fallen cedar tree. (So that’s why this trail is called Cedar Tree!) If your vehicle is small enough, you can drive under it and get a pretty killer photo. Only one vehicle (Cherokee) in this group could make it but the trail guide helped everyone get a pretty cool shot with their hoods under the tree.

While Malo was playing with the trees, Joe was asked to be mid-gunner on Hoodraiser which he was happy to do. During the driver’s meeting, Joe noticed a fire that was left unattended and took the opportunity to speak about the principles of Tread Lightly and got out water and shovel to extinguish the fire, showing some of the participants how. He also helped a number of Jeeps air down and show them how to use their tool, or suggested the ARB deflator he let them use. On the trail, he was able to get out during different obstacles on the run and act as spotter for a number of participants. The rain created a good amount of mud that made everything just a little bit more challenging but everyone managed to get through with minimal help. Again, lots of smiles on this trail too.

Day two the weather cleared up so Malo and Joe decided to team up to take on Sand Lake together. Armed with their flags, sunblock, and beach permits, they were ready to cut cookies in the sand. The trail guide lead the group out towards the beach and lined them up to take advantage of the beautiful view. The next photo op was to crawl up a large piece of drift wood. The trail guide spotted everyone who wanted to get the shot while everyone else got to play in the sand. (Watch out for the ATVs!) After quick the photo sesh, the group headed up to the dunes and tackled the sand bowl. Everyone got a chance to go up and down the tall sandy hills. Only a couple struggled but everyone made it. While making our way through the dunes, Joe noticed one of the attendee’s Jeep had something loose underneath. He flagged them down and sure enough, a shock bolt was missing. Jumping right into action, Joe was underneath the Jeep with a solid temporary solution. Armed with some zip ties, an wrench extension bar, and some duct tape, Joe was able to secure the shock and allow the participant to drive back to town to get the needed bolt for a proper fix. They even joined back up with the group a little bit later after the repair was done. After the fun on the beach, the group headed up the mountain to enjoy a long logging road drive capped off with an epic photo at the top.

All in all, this event was an absolute blast and was very well done. The JJUSA staff and volunteers were top notch. We simply cannot speak highly enough about them. They catered to every one of their participants and made sure everyone had a great time.

We’re definitely looking forward to this event next year!
