The great thing about having a truck bed is the ability to carry a ton of stuff in the back of the truck…. the bad is that your gear is left out in the open to prying eyes, inclement weather, and is vulnerable to dust and debris on the trail.
One of the quickest and easiest ways to protect the gear in the bed of your Gladiator is a tonneau or bed cover; out of sight, out of mind. Bed covers also keep your items more protected from the weather and trail debris.
For our install, we chose to go with a genuine Mopar bed cover on our 2019 Gladiator JT, however there are other great options out there. It fits great, and so far the bed has been fairly protected from the weather. We’ll have to wait until the fall PNW rains start to see how weather protected things really are.
What’s In The Box:
The Mopar soft cover is a tri-fold and comes in the box already folded in threes.
Mopar Soft Cover instructions and hardware kit. As you can see, not too much to it. This will be a quick and easy install.
Tools Needed:
Utility Knife
T30, T50 Torx Bit
3mm Hex Key
The How-To:
Start out by cutting out the bed rail cut-outs on the inner edge of the Gladiator bed rails.
Pro Tip: We used a plastic panel tool to hold the bed rail cap out away from bed rail to keep from cutting into the paint.
Once the cut-outs are removed you can access the mounting holes for the Tail Brackets.
Install the Tail Brackets with the supplied T30 Torx screws.
The Cab Brackets bolt into the front corners. The lower hole is threaded and uses the supplied T50 Torx screw. The upper holes is a punched hole, (no threads) and uses a rubber well nut (aka expansion nut) to expand and hold the bracket in position.
One flat washer goes on either side of the bracket, the bolt goes through and tightens into the expansion nut. It is easiest of you tighten the expansion nut enough that it barely slides into the bare hole in the bed first to help keep it from spinning. Use a 3mm hex bit or key to tighten the bolt.
Set the brackets into position and install the T50 Torx cab bracket lower screws and then tighten the upper bolts that thread into the expansion nuts.
Flip the tonneau cover upside down and take a look at the long threaded rods attached to the sliders in the cross bars, these drop down through the holes in the cab brackets. The Cab Clamp Knobs screw on to these threaded rods after the cover is installed.
Set the soft cover on the bed rails, make sure to align the threaded rods with holes in the cab brackets, then install the Cab Clamp Knobs.
Square up the cover with the bed rails, leaving the same amount of space on either side of the bed cover. The Mopar soft bed cover doesn’t go all the way out to the outer edges of the bed rails, so we split the difference and left a gap on either side.
Tighten the cab clamp knobs on both sides. **Do not use pliers, wrenches or other to over tighten.
To hook the tail clamps, pull down on the handles, slide to the bed sides and hook into the tail brackets.
Make sure they are securely hooked to the tail brackets.
That’s it, you are done, step back and take a look at your freshly installed Mopar Soft Folding Bed Cover.
To open, unhook the tail clamps, lift up at the back and start folding forward.
Once it is folded all the way forward, use the attached straps to strap it in place.
