AEV builds great stuff. I've been very happy with their 2.5in lift kit, so I thought I would be satisfied with their tire carrier. UPS treated the package like trash. The box arrived badly damaged and the parts were also scuffed and bent. I should have sent it back. Sanding got the arm connector round enough to fit into the brass sleeves. Black touch up paint took care of the rest of the dings. Assembly is a chore made worse by the instructions. There are clearly steps missing. There are no torque specs. Don't over-tighten the saddle block or it could crack. Adjustments and readjustments will be needed to several components. AEV assures you that if this is put together correctly, it won't rattle. Mine must not be put together correctly despite hours of tinkering with the bracketry on the frame rail and on the tailgate. I'm sure the factory installations are perfect, but doing this for the first and last time, it's not easy. It works and it seems durable, but it's on the edge of not being a DIY product due to the host of adjustments needed to make it rattle-free. Here's a tip: put locktite on every bolt. Once you get this put together, you will never, ever want to take it apart.
