Shock skid plates 4 years ago
Install sucked because the upper bolts and nuts did not match. Was able to use old bolts. They held up the next week when I did the Rubicon trail. A few paint scratches because I was only on 35s. Glad I had them since the trail a few rocks on it.

Installing the rear Rancho Shock Skid Plate 4 years ago

I had the same issue as Papa Surf with my nuts & bolts The control arm bots were fine thread and the nuts were coarse thread, might of been the other way around. I suggest you check the nuts and bolts before you begin. I went to the local Ace Hardware looking for nuts that would fit the bolts, they were out of them. So plan B get bolts that would fit the nuts, those they had at $6 each. I did complain to Northridge and in a couple of days, Rancho shipped nut and bolts that fit. Looked easy, it wasn't, took several hours. My first issue was on the left/drivers side. I don't know if the extra bracket, not mentioned in the instructions, is stock Jeep or came with my lift kit, see picture. I had to try several different ways of getting things to fit together then get all the holes to line up. I thought the right side would be easy. Wrong, but that was all on me. The passenger side shock mount, the second picture, had been tweaked/bent. Looked like a small bend but I needed 3 hands and it took forever getting the holes to line up. So by the time I finished instead of a couple of wrenches under the Jeep I had 1/2 the toolbox. Actually it's pretty straight forward assuming you haven't readjusted your mounting points. Once the work was done they look good and should beef up the mounting brackets.

Great skids! 4 years ago

The skids fit well and are a great addition to protect your rear shocks and keep from getting hung up on the rear control arm support. Installation was good except that our kit came with a fine thread bolt and a coarse thread nut for the control arm. Luckily the factory nut was fine thread and was able to be used in lieu of the one that came in the hardware kit.

Nice looking product. Same thing happened as the two previous reviews mentioned. Bolt with fine thread and nut with coarse thread.
