Hello everyone. I can’t say enough about this spare tire mount from TeraFlex. Not only is it super high-quality aluminum, but it looks cool too, however no one’s ever gonna really see it with the tire mounted on it. Also the positioning of the third brake light is awesome and so well thought out. My only grip is the mount itself should be aluminum and not plastic. However, there is some very important information if you have a 2024 Jeep Wrangler 4XE or newer and are replacing the OEM spare tire mount to fit a larger rim and tire. I did not see or find any of this information disclosed in all the videos and instructions that I reviewed prior to me installing the TeraFlex Alpha HD Adjustable Spare Tire Mounting Kit (https://www.northridge4x4.com/part/tire-carriers/4838910-teraflex-alpha-hd-adj-spare-mounting-kit-5x5-wheels). First, when you’re disconnecting the camera from the OEM mount, there is a flat bracket that is sticks to the inside of the actual OEM tire mount. You must use a hammer and screw driver and pound the stud holes out on the OEM bracket. Doesn’t have to be very hard but consistent and the bracket will break free from the inside of the OEM mount, releasing the camera. Second, very, very important is the pedestrian speaker. All 2024 and newer 4XE’s have a pedestrian speaker mounted to the inside of the OEM tire mount. None of this was disclosed in any video or the instructions. Teraflex makes an OEM bracket for the pedestrian speaker (https://www.northridge4x4.com/part/tire-carriers/4838290-teraflex-alpha-speaker-bracket-kit). I ordered it From Northridge; it looks very simplistic to install. Northridge4x4 did not know about this on the 4xe’s, at least the sales rep that I spoke to. Third. When disconnecting the third brake light and the pedestrian speaker wires, mark them!! Do not mix them up because the plastic connector is the exact same on both. I somehow got them reversed which caused the third brake light and the rearview camera to stop functioning, including the pedestrian speaker. Took me a good hour or more to figure out I swapped the two cables. Fourth note, if you have a steel bumper, make sure you use the tire studs in the top hole of the TeraFlex Alpha HD Adjustable Spare Tire Mount. I’m running Mickey Thompson Baja Boss M/T 35 x 12.5 x 17 and from watching all the videos and reading the Teraflex instructions, the 35 inch should fit with the mounting studs in the middle hole. Not so much! You must use the top holes to mount your studs. Now maybe that’s because the Mickey Thompson M/T’s have a deeper/more tread. I am not sure and maybe someone can shed some light. Just four notes when installing TeraFlex Alpha HD Adjustable Spare Tire Mounting. Just follow the directions especially when measuring the offset. I’m only running a 35-inch tire on a Black Rhino Arsenal 17x8 inch rim that’s about 80 pounds, so I elected to send back the TeraFlex Alpha HD Hinged Spare Tire Carrier. That tire Carrier weighs an additional 40 pounds by itself. Since I’m not doing any radical off-Road exploring and from what I’ve read in detail, it’s not needed on the newer JL’s that have the upgraded and reinforced tailgate from the factory. For the $740 price on the Teraflex hing gate, I felt I could invest that in something else for my rig. Hope this helps some people.

Probably one of the nicer and better thought out tire carriers systems out there. Provides ton of adjustability for different tires sizes and wheel offsets. I really like the quick release 3rd brake light, it makes doing 5 tire rotations much easier when working with the spare. It is also quiet, no rattling of the tailgate. I'm happy with this purchase!

I was very pleased with the quality while installing the Teraflex spare tire mount. It had great adjustability and felt very sturdy while hanging a very heavy 37x12.5 R17. Camera mounted up great with better vision then stock since I installed the KMC Grenada beadlock lock wheels with -35 offset.

Installed to accommodate 35" spare tire and aftermarket bumper fit. Plenty of adjustability based on diameter and width. Really well made and no issue with tire weight although if going heavier than 85 lbs on the carrier the weak link will now be the tail gate hinges so keep that in mind. The teraflex tailgate reinforcement works perfectly with it of course but I believe it works with most others as well.

I paired this up with the OEM mopar hinge reinforcement that came on my 2020 JLUR Recon. It is extremely solid, looks amazing, and holds my 37" tire solidly. I will say, for installation, the jam nuts stripped out while trying to torque down the studs and they sent me a full nuts and bolts kit when i told them about it for free. Sadly, the second set did the same, but its been 6,000 miles and the tire hasnt fallen off, so chances are they were close to fully torqued before they stripped!

This is a quality product and the included instructions made for a super easy install. I especially like the 3rd brake light relocation. My 37” spare is mounted securely and I get many questions about the tire carrier. To date, 2 friends in my club now also have the same tire carrier now installed on their jeeps, we are all super happy with it.

Installed the adjustable tire mount coupled with the Teraflex HD tailgate mount. The tire carrier is nice and easy to install, very sturdy quality stuff. There are a couple draw backs not mentioned. 1) you'll have to unplug the 3rd tail light wiring and remove it to remove your spare tire, but not that big a deal unless you have a lot of flats which I don't running BFG KM3s. 2) I use to carry a bag on my spare tire used for trash while overlanding, but now if I put the bad on it covers up the 3rd brake light. I'm going to have to figure out someway I can put my bag back on without hiding the 3rd brake light. Other than that it is a nice adjustable tire carrier.

I put this on after increasing tire size because our rear park assist alarm kept going off. It let me raise the spare up and tuck it in close to the tailgate. Kinda wish I'd gone with their tailgate/hinge reinforcement as well but I already had the mopar one installed. I did have one of the factory bolts strip out the hole while REMOVING it so had to tap it a size larger. It was probably over torqued at the factory. Otherwise no problems with the install and would definitely recommend.

This Spare tire mount really worked well. Moved the tire back towards the tailgate nicely. I was able to go back to my stock rubber bumps on the tailgate and my safety sensors quit beeping when I was backing up.

I ordered this tire carrier in August. In installed on 10/5 2 days before I drove from Central Illinois to Moab. 1/2 way across Kansas (14 mpg🤦♂️)and its still on. If it falls off it will be my fault I have a 35” BFG KO2 on a Dirty Life DT-2 wheel, bout 110 lbs. It was relatively easy instal see link for great instructions and pics. Down size was camera removal was not easy. Had to use a dremel because screws holding camera were stripped out from factory. I used my ceiling winch for hard top to lift tire also. 3 years in and no issues! Solid tire mount that looks great! Adjustable depth so the tire will sit close to the tailgate and on the bump stop. This feature also gives you a better view for your backup camera. 3rd brake light needs to be disconnected for tire rotations. Would be nice if the connector was on a pigtail and not directly on the brake light housing. Quality outweighs this minor inconvenience. I upgraded the 12 point bolts to Dorman 981-536 bolts; much easier to tighten. Be careful tightening the main plate to the tailgate. If you tighten too much, you may brake a bolt like I did. Easy to fix if you do. removed the plastic on the inside and used vice-grips to remove the bolt. Replacement bolts available at online parts stores or the dealership.

This thing is solid! Compared to the old model(JK) this is way better. Couple things I would’ve love have is the ability to adjust the camera position, I have wheels with 4.5in backspace and even though the camera extend more than factory, the wheel is still showing, not that bad though. Also a gasket between the bracket and the tailgate to prevent paint damage. Besides all that I love this thing and would buy again. Teraflex come on send a sticker at least.

Tire carrier fit great. Sturdy as heck. Was able to slide the wheel back towards the tailgate to make up for the 3.5 inch backspacing of my wheels. so the tire now touches the rubber bumpers. The adjustability of the carrier is great. Only problem I had was there was a bolt that was missing and loctite that was missing. Not a big deal as I found a bolt that worked.

The major flaw with this tire carrier, which is not explained or mentioned, is that you have to fish the brake light wiring through the silver housing each and every time you remove the tire from the carrier. If you install a spare tire and leave it, not a big deal. However, for those who rotate in the spare every 5,000 miles, this is a major annoyance. The issue is only compounded when you add a 37-39in tire almost completely blocking the area for access.

The extreme backspacing of the non-xr 392 wheels (the ones which came with 33s) do NOT fit while wearing 37s. Even at the maximum adjustment outwards, the three bolts do not extend through the wheel holes for the nuts to get a bite on them. I haven tried it with smaller tires. It’s ridiculously heavy, if you care about weight. Made of steel which will rust if black finish gets chipped and it’s located in a moist or salty state. The proprietary Jeep wiring connector for third brake light cable is fragile and not designed to be disconnected and reconnected on the regular like a high cycle count connector. This, rotating the spare regularly will quickly destroy that connector. If I keep it, may add my own separate disconnect halfway down the wire, a more robust one, meant for frequent cycles. Safely leaving the fragile Jeep connector in place permanently.
