Heavy-Duty Performance Upgrade
The Jeep Wrangler JK was never designed to handle the abuse of huge tires, increased power levels, higher gear ratios and the additional stresses of towing. The factory cellulose based clutch material simply can't stand up to extreme conditions. Additionally, the torque converter lock-up clutch is undersized and designed for constant slip under factory conditions — which isn’t an issue at stock power levels. However, when you increase tire size, add horsepower, or change gear ratios, the converter can begin to slip under load, leading to fluid breakdown and reduced performance. ATS' modified NAG1 is redesigned to correct all of these problems and easily handle turbo charged engines, larger tires and heavy towing. ATS reworks the transmission’s hydraulic system to match the engine’s torque output. This includes adjusting clutch engagement timing and line pressure for smoother, stronger shifts. These upgrades ensure the clutch packs apply and release correctly under power, making the NAG1 transmission more reliable and capable of handling extreme use.
Inside the Transmission:
Pump Assembly
The pressure regulator circuit is modified for a wider pressure range, allowing lower pressure at light loads and quicker increases under high torque to match engine demands.
Clutch Drum & Clutch Packs
Upgraded pressure plates increase clutch surface area within space limits. All clutch packs are replaced with high-performance friction and steel plates for improved durability and grip.
Valve Body
Heavily modified to improve shift precision in the NAG1’s clutch-to-clutch design. High-flow solenoids and re-routed hydraulic flow enhance clutch control. Available separately for stock transmissions to boost capacity.
