The Teraflex Heavy Duty Hinged Tire Carrier is designed to accommodate up to a 37” tire. The TeraFlex Alpha Heavy-Duty Hinged Spare Tire Carrier and Alpha Heavy-Duty Adjustable Spare Tire Mounting Kit will secure your spare tire over the most extreme trails and rugged terrain. This hinged spare tire carrier offers easy access to the rear cargo area in one smooth action. Using the factory tailgate hinge mounting points, you will be able to spread the load of the spare tire over a larger area for maximum strength and durability. For even more functionality added to your Jeep Wrangler JK, the Alpha tire carrier also provides additional mounting points for off-road accessories such as a recovery jack and fluid containers.
The Teraflex Heavy Duty Hinged Tire Carrier is expertly crafted with dedicated tooling and A356.2 T6 cast aluminum construction with a UV topcoat. This tire carrier is made to be as light and as strong as possible, while its design, fit, and finish complements your Jeep Wranlger JK's body shape. Internal gussets and bracing in the stock Wrangler body support the Alpha tire carrier and oversized tire. The heavy-Duty forged steel brackets and 5/8” hinge pins constructed from fold formed high-carbon hardened steel combined with the factory mounting locations ensure you are getting the strongest rattle-free tire carrier available. With this Heavy-Duty reinforcement carrier supporting the weight of the tailgate assembly and spare tire, the Alpha tire carrier removes all stress from the tailgate.

An awesome, heavy duty hinge setup! I don't have to worry about adding too much weight on the tailgate now. I have a tailgate table and will be going to 35's for the next set of tires. The only reason I docked one star is because of the price (I purchased the tire mount as well), and the fact that the tailgate doesn't quite open as far as it used to - it only opens to 90 degrees instead of a few inches past that. Also, it was a super easy install!

After moving up to 37’s I needed a new spare tire hinge and carrier. Since I take my German Shepherd with me a lot, my biggest requirement was it had to open with the tailgate and open easily. I decided to spend a little more and I am definitely glad I did. It was a breeze to install and works perfectly. I would definitely recommend this one to anyone who is looking for a new spare tire and hinge.

Will this carrier work with the stock third brake light?

A: You can use the stock tire carrier with the stock third brake light on it with this Heavy Duty Hinge. If you also get the Teraflex Adjustable Tire Mount, p/n 4838130, it comes with a bracket that lets you use just the light from the stock 3rd brake light with it.
